*Autistic Language

At Making Waves OT, you’ll hear us use identity-affirming language. That means we say, ‘autistic person,’ rather than, ‘person with autism’. What we’re hearing from the majority of autistic adults is that autism is a part of their identity that they don’t need to be separated from. Autism is not a disease, it’s a different way of thinking and learning. Join us in embracing the word ‘autistic’ to help create acceptance and pride in being neurodivergent.
